The Least Traveled Path “Lake of Artist” An Artist Dream Come True

Lake of Artists. Ergaki, Russia

Ergaki is a incredibly beautiful natural park and ski resort located in the central part of the Western Sayan mountain range, it’s midway between the capital of Khakassia – Abakan and the capital city of Tuva – Kyzyl, Russia. It has become a popular destination resort among mountain hikers and climbers. Its’ an amazing beauty, one of the untouched parts of nature in Eastern Siberia, it’s a land of transparent rivers and lakes, majestic Siberian taiga and granite peaks. A land truly to behold.

Brothers Peaks or Parabola

It is here that of all the boundless natural wonders of the world exists one of the most picturesque lakes anywhere, called the Lake of Artists. Even experienced travelers will tell you that if you haven’t seen the Lake of Artists, you have also never seen anything like Ergaki. The Lake of Artists is also at the foot of another amazing spectacle – two sharp peaks, the so-called Brothers or Parabola. The following video will delight the senses of the true wonder of this park.

  Ergaki National Park

The local trails abound with magnificent scenery, sub alpine flower filled meadows; they are perfectly suited for photography and filming. But do not forget that you will have to go through the taiga, rocky tundra, which is very difficult for the average person. Not many beginners can hike these trails, since the path to this lake is a very difficult one. It goes through mountain passes that neither a quad bike or horse are able to pass through – it can only be reached on foot. If you come you probably won’t be able reach the lake itself in a single day so it’s best to stay in the local tourist hostel.  Even for seasoned hikers it’s recommended to come with the right equipment and should consider hiring an experienced guide to get you to the lake.

Picturesque Surroundings and Crystal Clear Water

The lake itself received its name not because of the picturesque surroundings nor its crystal clear water, which are often present in the works of famous landscape Artists of Russia. It was named for the artists from the Krasnoyarsk region that discovered this lake in late 1800’s. The public got to experience this wonderful place through their pictures thus exposing the existence of one of the most fabulous places on Earth, the “Lake of Artists”. Every year a growing number of artists come and explore the nature of Ergaki which inspires the ordinary curious tourists to visit and view the incredible vistas.

Unique and Mysterious Parabola

Many people tend to visit these lands to see the unique and mysterious Parabola. There are no analogues in the world match this truly unusual rock formation . Only seasoned hikers and adventurers dare to attempt such a arduous journey. Reaching this spot seems to be an almost unattainable goal– very few have seen the Parabola since it’s not easily accessible from a tourist center. Essentially, the Parabola can be seen only from the Lake of Artist, a difficult lake to get to. If one is so inclined to visit this lake it would be wise to hire a guide to take you there.
