So What’s the Russian Countryside Like?

Peaceful, calm, tranquil, and serene

We have a word in Russian, “спокойный” which means quiet, peaceful, calm, tranquil, and serene. It is with this small sampling of words that begin to describe the countryside. Just like traveling into the rural areas of America something changes. The hustle and bustle of the city streets no longer echo in your ears, the hard landscapes of streets and buildings no longer offend your eyes. Even the air changes, the sweet smell of clover fills our nostrils and the fragrance that come from the trees and surroundings change your mood. Walking through tall grass and running your hands over the blades all bring a sense of what the countryside will bring no matter if it’s Russia or the USA.

Coming back to your roots

If we are quiet while in these surroundings then we will experience and see the wildlife that abounds, be it a top a water tower, standing on a light pole, or idly swimming across a pond. You might even find a Blue Heron waiting for its next meal to come swimming by, each of them touches the core of what it’s like to spend time here. It can bring a joy that cannot be appreciated anywhere else. It all reminds me of what it means to come back to your roots. Were we all not designed to enjoy these simple pleasures?

Catching a glimpse of life

It can also be said that it’s the little details we miss that give us the greatest happiness. When we are children we will stop and look at flowers with all their amazing beauty. We will search through blades of grass astonished by what we find. As we explore our surroundings our little feet desperately cling to the railroad rails as we learn to walk and balance ourselves, every once in a while catching a glimpse of a miniature clump of flowers growing between the ties. Oh, the memories that are formed in our young minds forever etched, never forgotten. This is the Russian countryside.
