It seems that our favorite action hero has now been accused of being an utter drunk. The very man that personified the ultimate playboy has been shot down, no pun intended by doctors in the United Kingdom. Is Ian Fleming turning in his grave over this? Would his arch enemies like “Jaws” or maybe “LeChiffre” taken better advantage had they known about the alcohol-induced tremors? Let’s take a look at what some of the news reports are saying about our beloved movie Icon.
The Telegraph: James Bond consumed four times the recommended weekly alcohol limit while serving his country putting him at risk of liver disease and impotence, researchers find. Bond had just 12.5 alcohol-free days out of the 87.5 days he was able to drink and frequently drove when over the limit.
The Huffpost – Canada: LONDON – He may have a license to kill, but is he sober enough to shoot? Bond’s drinking habits put him at high risk for numerous alcohol-related diseases and an early alcohol-related death, the authors write.
Poor James I’m afraid maybe has gotten a bum rap, did all the investigation include statistics on a global scale or was this inquiry done only in the United Kingdom. On a global scale the world drank the equivalent of 6.1 litres of pure alcohol per person in 2005, according to a report from the World Health Organisation published on February 11th, 2011. According to the report if James had been Moldovan his so called problem couldn’t compare with the rest of it’s citizens who consume over 10 litres a year.
So the question remains, what if this so called investigation had been done in Russia or Moldova, what would the doctors say? Would they have called this world famous idol an alcoholic? Or would they have called him a Wussie? We may never know but it does cast some doubt in this blogger’s mind.
